Fatal Shooting in Cedar Grove: Tristan Gautier Bell Arrested and Charged with Murder

Brunswick County, VA – On the evening of August 2, 2025, at approximately 11:04 PM, deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported shooting in the 12000 block of Cedar Grove Road, located in the Lawrenceville area of Brunswick County.

Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim lying outside of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as Ty’el Daveon Jones, 25, of Lawrenceville.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the tragic incident stemmed from a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical altercation. The confrontation quickly intensified, leading to the use of multiple firearms by individuals involved. Witness accounts and physical evidence at the scene helped authorities piece together the moments leading up to the fatal shooting.

Through swift and coordinated efforts, investigators identified Tristan Gautier Bell, 54, also of Lawrenceville, as one of the individuals involved in the shooting. A search warrant was executed at Bell’s residence during the early morning hours of August 3. He was taken into custody without incident.

Tristan Gautier Bell has been formally charged with Murder and was transported to the Meherrin River Regional Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. Investigators emphasize that this remains an active and ongoing case. Additional charges are expected as more evidence is reviewed and witness statements are obtained.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of Ty’el Jones and everyone impacted by this senseless act.”
