In Loving Memory of Councilman Charles Wheeless “A Servant Leader, A Devoted Advocate, A Beloved Friend”

It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we share the passing of City Council Member Charles Wheeless, a man whose unwavering love for West Memphis and its people was evident in every word he spoke and every action he took. Charles’s presence was a cornerstone in our community—a voice of strength, reason, and compassion who committed his life to public service, civic engagement, and unity.

Councilman Wheeless was more than an elected official; he was a neighbor, a friend, and a passionate advocate who carried the heart of West Memphis in all that he did. From the council chambers to community events, from advocating for infrastructure improvements to listening with open ears to constituents’ concerns, Charles was deeply invested in the city he called home. His dedication was not performative—it was personal.

Councilman Wheeless loved West Memphis. He showed up, he served, and he never stopped fighting for the people he represented. His heart for this city was big, and his absence will be felt in every corner of our community. My prayers are with his family, and I hope we all take a moment to honor the legacy he leaves behind,” said Mayor Marco McClendon in a heartfelt tribute.

Charles Wheeless was known for his integrity, consistency, and calm strength. He believed in thoughtful leadership and in building bridges—between neighborhoods, across political lines, and among city departments. He listened more than he spoke, and when he did speak, people listened—because his words carried sincerity and wisdom. Whether championing youth programs, working to improve public safety, or pushing for economic growth, Councilman Wheeless showed up every single day with purpose and humility.

His absence now leaves a void that will not be easily filled. It is a loss not only for our city government but for every individual whose life he touched along the way. His colleagues on the council will miss his presence and perspective. His friends will miss his generosity and wit. And his constituents will miss his dedication and devotion.

We ask that the community join us in lifting up the Wheeless family during this incredibly difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing how deeply Charles was respected and cherished by so many. His legacy will continue to live on in the policies he helped shape, the people he uplifted, and the values he carried so honorably.

As we grieve this tremendous loss, we also celebrate a life of extraordinary service and selfless love for West Memphis. Thank you, Councilman Charles Wheeless, for everything you gave. Your impact is indelible, and your memory will forever be etched into the heart of our city.
