In Loving Memory of Destiny Quiterio (2008–2025)

With broken hearts and profound sorrow, we mourn the tragic and untimely passing of 17-year-old Destiny Quiterio, one of the victims in the devastating triple homicide that occurred in Winston-Salem on the morning of Saturday, August 2, 2025. Her life, filled with promise, warmth, and joy, was taken far too soon, leaving her family, friends, and community reeling with grief.

Destiny was a vibrant young woman with a radiant smile and a heart full of compassion. She was the kind of person who could lift others simply by being present — her laughter contagious, her spirit bright and unwavering. A devoted daughter, loyal friend, and loving sister, Destiny’s presence was a gift to everyone who knew her. Whether it was helping a friend through a tough time, supporting a classmate, or simply showing kindness in everyday moments, Destiny’s generosity and sincerity left an impression that will never fade.

Her family, who are enduring an unimaginable loss, shared the following heartfelt statement:

“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Destiny Quiterio. Her time with us was far too short, but her love, laughter, and presence left a lasting mark on all our hearts. She had a spirit that lit up every room, and the memories they gave us will be cherished forever. Though we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life they lived and the love they left behind. May she rest peacefully, and may we hold onto the strength and joy Destiny brought into our lives.”

Destiny was a student who not only excelled academically but also inspired others through her determination and courage. She dreamed big — speaking often of her future and all the ways she hoped to make a difference in the world. Whether it was through her passion for music, her love of creative writing, or her aspirations to help others, Destiny carried a quiet strength and boundless potential.

Her community has been deeply shaken by this tragedy. Friends and classmates describe her as “a light in the darkest of places” and “the person who always knew how to make you smile, even when things felt impossible.” Her teachers remember her as respectful, curious, and full of promise. Her family remembers her as their joy — the daughter who brought warmth into their home every single day.

In the wake of this senseless violence, the community has come together not only to seek justice but to honor Destiny’s legacy. Vigils have been held, candles lit, and stories shared — all in remembrance of a life that, while brief, was profoundly meaningful. Her name will not be forgotten, nor the love she brought into the world.

As we grapple with this heartbreaking loss, let us hold tight to Destiny’s memory — not only in mourning but in celebration of the love, hope, and kindness she exemplified. May we carry forward her light, and may her soul rest in eternal peace.

Destiny Quiterio, you were deeply loved and will be forever missed.
