PINEVILLE, NC — The Pineville community is mourning the tragic and untimely loss of Jose Roberto Ferreira, who was shot and killed in a senseless act of violence on Saturday evening, August 2, 2025. He was just 37 years old.
At approximately 6:00 p.m., officers from the Pineville Police Department were dispatched to The Brook apartment complex, located off Johnston Road, in response to a 911 call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers discovered Ferreira inside an apartment, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate efforts of first responders and emergency medical personnel, Jose Roberto Ferreira was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His death has left his family, friends, and loved ones in shock and heartbreak.
The suspect in the case, 23-year-old Johann Manuel Ibarra, had reportedly fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Thanks to swift and coordinated efforts, officers located Ibarra at a nearby gas station later that evening, where he was apprehended without incident. Authorities have since confirmed that Ibarra is undergoing interviews and is being held in connection with Ferreira’s death.
According to the Pineville Police Department, the two men were known to each other, and the tragic encounter was not believed to be a random act of violence. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, but officials emphasize that there is no ongoing threat to the community at large.
Remembering Jose Roberto Ferreira
Jose Roberto Ferreira was more than just a name in a tragic headline—he was a devoted son, loyal friend, and kind-hearted individual who left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
