Michigan City, IN — August 3, 2025 –In the early morning hours of Saturday, August 3, the Michigan City Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the downtown area near Matey’s Restaurant, located at 110 Franklin Street. The call came in at approximately 2:34 a.m., prompting an immediate response from patrol officers and emergency medical personnel.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an individual suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency responders rendered immediate aid at the scene before transporting the victim to Franciscan Health Michigan City for further medical treatment. The victim’s condition has not yet been disclosed, and authorities have not released their identity pending notification of next of kin.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the Michigan City Police Department’s Detective Bureau was activated and promptly arrived on scene to take over the investigation. Crime scene tape was established around the area surrounding the restaurant, and detectives began collecting evidence, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses, and speaking with witnesses present at the time of the shooting.
