VISALIA, CALIFORNIA — A 21-year-old man, Jonathan Carranza, is in custody following a violent altercation outside the Amazon warehouse in Visalia that ended with another man being stabbed in the parking lot.
The incident unfolded around 6:31 p.m. Saturday evening at the Amazon fulfillment center located on North Kelsey Street. Visalia Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing at the facility. Upon arrival, they quickly located the suspect, Carranza, near his vehicle in the parking lot and took him into custody without incident.
Officers learned that Carranza had been involved in a heated verbal argument with the victim, later identified as 27-year-old Marcos Hernandez, just moments before the assault. According to police, Carranza pulled out a knife during the confrontation and stabbed Hernandez, causing him to collapse near the loading dock entrance.
Emergency medical services arrived on the scene within minutes and transported Hernandez to Kaweah Health Medical Center, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening stab wound. Hospital staff confirmed Sunday morning that Hernandez remains in stable condition and is expected to recover.
Following the arrest, Carranza was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon (Penal Code 245).
At this time, it remains unclear whether the dispute was work-related or personal in nature. Authorities have not confirmed if either Carranza or Hernandez are employees of Amazon. The company has yet to issue a public statement regarding the incident, though employees noted a heightened police and security presence in the hours following the attack.
One employee who witnessed the aftermath of the stabbing, but asked not to be identified, said the scene was chaotic:
“Everyone was shaken up. There were police everywhere, and they weren’t letting anyone leave right away. It’s scary to think this happened right where we work.”
The Visalia Police Department has launched a full investigation and is asking anyone who may have seen the altercation or has further information to come forward. Witnesses can call the department’s non-emergency line or leave anonymous tips with Tulare County Crime Stoppers.
