SACRAMENTO, CA — Authorities have identified the man who died early Sunday morning after a tragic fall from a sixth-floor balcony in Sacramento as Parker Ward Bolenbaugh, age 39, of Citrus Heights. The incident occurred under unusual and troubling circumstances, and officials are still working to piece together the full scope of what led to Bolenbaugh’s death.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at a commercial building located at 1750 Howe Avenue, which is associated with the staffing firm SearchPros.
Unfolding Events Before the Fall
Preliminary reports indicate that Bolenbaugh allegedly forced entry into the building and caused significant property damage estimated at more than $100,000. Officials confirmed that the damage appeared to be random and destructive in nature rather than calculated or theft-related.
After gaining access to the interior of the building, Bolenbaugh activated the fire alarm, triggering an emergency response from both fire and law enforcement agencies. He then made his way to a sixth-floor balcony, where the situation took a devastating turn.
A Fatal Decision
Roughly one minute after arriving on the balcony, Bolenbaugh climbed over the railing and fell to the ground below. Emergency personnel, including members of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, were already on site due to the fire alarm and immediately attempted life-saving measures, including CPR. Bolenbaugh was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Possible Mental Health Crisis or Intoxication
In a statement to the press, Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, provided further insight into the erratic behavior Bolenbaugh displayed before his fatal fall.
“He made some concerning remarks such as, ‘What are you going to do? Kill me?’ and similar statements,” Gandhi noted. “Therefore, we are uncertain if he was experiencing a mental health crisis or possibly under the influence of substances at the time.”
Officials emphasized that while the damage was extensive, there was no clear indication that Bolenbaugh was attempting to steal anything from the property.
SearchPros Statement and Community Response
A representative from SearchPros told local media that they had been in direct communication with law enforcement and emergency responders in the aftermath of the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life,” the company said in a public statement. “The burglary suspect has no affiliation with SearchPros. We extend our gratitude to the police and fire departments for their efforts in handling this situation.”
The company also confirmed that the building is undergoing repairs and that the damage was significant but confined primarily to certain areas of the facility.
A Complex and Tragic Loss
The death of Parker Ward Bolenbaugh leaves many unanswered questions. Friends and family are now left to grieve while struggling to understand what may have led to such a tragic outcome. While the investigation continues, officials are urging the public to avoid speculation until toxicology reports and a more thorough review of the events can be completed.
Mental health professionals note that cases like this are a stark reminder of how mental health crises and substance abuse can intersect with public safety in unpredictable and heartbreaking ways.
Investigation Ongoing
As of now, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Bolenbaugh’s actions and final moments. Authorities have not confirmed whether surveillance footage exists that may shed additional light on what occurred in the minutes leading up to the fall.
Anyone who may have seen or interacted with Bolenbaugh earlier that evening is encouraged to reach out to law enforcement as investigators work to determine the full timeline and underlying causes of this tragedy.
In Memory
Though his death came under difficult and unsettling circumstances, those who knew Parker Ward Bolenbaugh are encouraged to remember him beyond this final moment. As a resident of Citrus Heights, he was a son, friend, and member of a wider community—one now grappling with the shock of his sudden loss.
Funeral arrangements and a memorial service have not yet been announced.
