Authorities have confirmed the arrest of Jarlen Richard, a 21-year-old resident of the 100 block of Spruce Street in Opelousas, in connection with the violent incident.

The shooting, which occurred earlier this week, sent shockwaves through the community as multiple rounds were fired from a moving vehicle, endangering several individuals who were present in the area at the time. Fortunately, despite the alarming nature of the attack, no fatalities were reported. However, the severity of the situation prompted an immediate and thorough response from local law enforcement.

Following the incident, Opelousas Police Department investigators acted swiftly. Through a combination of surveillance footage, witness interviews, and community cooperation, detectives were able to identify a suspect within a matter of hours. Their efforts led to the arrest of Jarlen Richard on Tuesday, August 5.

Richard has been formally charged with the following offenses:

  • Three Counts of Attempted First Degree Murder

The charges stem from the apparent intent to inflict lethal harm upon multiple individuals during the reckless act. Police have emphasized that while no one was physically injured by the gunfire, the consequences could have been catastrophic.
