Greenville Police Department Investigating Fatal Shooting at Haywood Mall

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Police Department (GPD) is actively investigating a tragic shooting incident that occurred on the evening of Saturday, August 3, 2025, at the Haywood Mall, located at 700 Haywood Road.

At approximately 6:49 PM, GPD dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a person suffering from a gunshot wound in the mall’s parking lot. Several callers indicated that the incident appeared to involve a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officers responded immediately and arrived at the scene within minutes. Upon arrival, they located an individual in the parking lot who had sustained critical injuries. Emergency medical services transported the victim to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin. While preliminary reports point to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the case remains under active investigation by the GPD’s Criminal Investigations Division. Detectives are conducting interviews, reviewing surveillance footage, and gathering all available evidence to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the incident.

“We are aware of the concerns and speculation circulating throughout the community and on social media,” said a spokesperson for the Greenville Police Department. “We want to reassure the public that every death is treated with the same seriousness and diligence, regardless of the circumstances. Our detectives are working carefully to gather facts and provide answers to the victim’s family and the community.”
