With gracious and saddened hearts, the Valdez family announces the passing of their beloved matriarch, Evelia Valdez, who departed this life peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2025, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family at her home in Erwin, Tennessee.
Born in Bella Vista, San Carlos, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Evelia was the cherished daughter of the late Inocente Gonzalez and Dorotea Castillo Gonzalez. She was preceded in death not only by her loving parents but also by her devoted husband, Juan Valdez, and several beloved siblings who walked before her into eternal rest.
Evelia lived a life marked by profound faith, unwavering devotion to family, and humble service to others. As a homemaker, she built a sanctuary of love and stability for her children and generations that followed. Her hands were never idle — whether preparing meals filled with care, tending to the home with grace, or gently reaching out to comfort and uplift those around her. Evelia found deep joy in the laughter of her family and strength in quiet moments of prayer.
Her enduring faith was reflected in her lifelong membership and active participation in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Erwin, where she worshipped with steadfast commitment and deep humility. Evelia was a woman whose life embodied compassion, generosity, and spiritual grace. She never hesitated to offer encouragement or lend a helping hand, and her presence within the church and community will be dearly missed.
Evelia Valdez leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, faith, and resilience. She is survived by five beloved children: Juan, Elvira, Rolando, Yolanda, and Blanca Alicia; as well as twenty grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one dear sister, Virginia. Each life she touched will carry her memory forward with reverence and affection.
Family and friends are invited to honor Evelia’s life during a visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Elizabethton, with Father Jesus Guerrero presiding.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Restlawn Memorial in La Feria, Texas, where Evelia will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
