In Loving Memory of Renee Krekel :August 4, 2025 | 11:15 AM

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the passing of a  beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Renee Krekel, who was peacefully called home on the morning of August 4, 2025, at 11:15 a.m. Renee’s final moments were filled with love and comfort, as she was surrounded by her cherished grandson, Gavin, and her dearest friend, Tina.

Renee was a woman of remarkable strength, grace, and generosity. Together with her devoted husband, Rick Krekel, she co-founded Krekel’s North in 1987, transforming the former Woodford location into a staple of the community. Through hard work, vision, and an unshakable commitment to service, Renee and Rick built more than a business—they created a gathering place where families could come together, where regulars were greeted by name, and where employees were treated like family.

For decades, Renee poured her heart into every aspect of the business. Whether it was working behind the counter, organizing community events, or mentoring young employees, her dedication was evident in everything she did. She believed in giving back, in lifting others up, and in creating a space where everyone felt welcome. Her impact reached far beyond the walls of the store, touching countless lives across generations.

In recent years, Renee made the decision to step back from day-to-day operations to focus on her health and embrace the role she cherished most—that of grandmother. Her days became filled with the laughter, hugs, and presence of her beloved grandchildren: Gavin, Gracie, and Sammi. These years were a precious gift to Renee and her family, as she found deep joy and peace in the time spent with those she loved most.

Renee’s strength in facing her health battles was matched only by her resilience and positivity. She lived each day with grace, never losing the warmth in her smile or the care in her heart. To know Renee was to be welcomed, to be seen, and to be loved. Her kindness was quiet but powerful, and her legacy will live on in every act of generosity, every story shared, and every memory carried forward by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

As we mourn the loss of Renee, we also celebrate a life well lived—a life that made a difference. She was more than a mother and a grandmother; she was a mentor, a businesswoman, a friend, a pillar of her community, and a light to so many.

We are forever grateful for the time we had with her and for the countless ways she enriched our lives. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace and reunited with loved ones who passed before her.

Details regarding memorial services and celebrations of Renee’s life will be shared in the coming days. In the meantime, we invite friends, family, former employees, and customers whose lives were touched by Renee to share memories and tributes in her honor.

Rest in peace, Renee Krekel. Your legacy lives on in your family, your community, and all the love you left behind.
