LOS FRESNOS, TX (August 5, 2025) — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has confirmed the identity of the young man who tragically lost his life in a fatal rollover crash on Tuesday in the Los Fresnos area. The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Angel Flores, a resident of Los Fresnos.
According to a preliminary report from DPS, the crash occurred at approximately 12:36 p.m. on State Highway 100, near Old Port Isabel Road. Flores was a passenger in a black Ford Ranger traveling eastbound when the vehicle hydroplaned, lost control, and rolled over.
The Ford Ranger, driven by an unidentified woman, was reportedly traveling at an unsafe speed for the road conditions at the time of the crash, according to investigators. The area had recently experienced rain, which is believed to have contributed to the vehicle’s loss of traction.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene. Angel Flores suffered severe injuries in the rollover and tragically died from his injuries at the scene. The driver was transported to Valley Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
DPS Sgt. Maria Hernandez confirmed the details of the crash and stated that the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are working to determine all contributing factors, including speed, weather, and any potential mechanical failures.
Brownsville Police Department assisted with traffic control in the area, as the crash caused major delays along Highway 100 while investigators documented the scene and emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage.
The death of Angel Flores has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit Los Fresnos community. Friends, family, and classmates are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of a young life taken far too soon. Community members have already begun expressing their grief and support for the Flores family, remembering Angel as a bright and kind-hearted young man with a promising future.
Texas DPS has urged all drivers to be mindful of changing weather conditions and to adjust their speed accordingly, especially during or after rain when roads can become slick and dangerous.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is encouraged to contact the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Angel Flores’s family is expected to release funeral arrangements in the coming days.
