BAKERSFIELD, CA — An 18-year-old Bakersfield man has been formally charged with murder in connection to a deadly shooting that took place late last month. Marlow Keith Maize appeared in court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, following his arrest last week. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf, and a judge ordered him to remain in custody without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 14.
Maize is accused of fatally shooting 19-year-old Landen O’Ryan Worthy on the night of July 27. Authorities said the shooting occurred near the 4600 block of Roberta Way, located in a residential area just south of Stockdale Highway and east of New Stine Road. After being struck by gunfire, Worthy managed to flee the immediate area but collapsed on Nimrod Court, where he was later found deceased.
Emergency responders were called to the scene, but despite their efforts, Worthy was pronounced dead. The tragic incident sent shockwaves through the neighborhood and sparked an immediate investigation by the Bakersfield Police Department.
Maize was arrested on Friday, August 1, after a week of investigative work by detectives. According to police, he was taken into custody without incident. Prosecutors from the Kern County District Attorney’s Office have filed a charge of first-degree murder, which could result in a life sentence if Maize is convicted.
