ATHENS, TN (August 6, 2025) – The Athens Police Department is actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred around 7:00 p.m. this evening on Tell Street, a typically quiet residential area now at the center of a growing investigation.
In a statement released to the public late Wednesday night, the department confirmed that they, along with assisting agencies, are working diligently to gather information. Due to the sensitive and developing nature of the case, limited details are currently available.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) and the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department are assisting Athens Police in the investigation, which remains ongoing into the late hours. Authorities have not yet disclosed any specifics regarding the number of individuals involved, the condition of potential victims, or whether any arrests have been made.
“This is an active investigation, and we are working to determine the full scope of what occurred,” the department noted in its release. “We ask the public to be patient and allow us the time to conduct a thorough and accurate investigation.”
Residents in the area of Tell Street reported seeing a large police presence shortly after the shooting was reported. Officers quickly secured the scene and began canvassing the neighborhood for evidence and witnesses.
As of now, the identities of those involved have not been released, and no motive has been confirmed. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything around the time of the incident to come forward with information that could assist the investigation.
