MEDIA RELEASE – DEATH INVESTIGATION IN WAUSHARA COUNTY

WILD ROSE, Wis. — The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office is currently leading a death investigation following a tragic incident that occurred Wednesday morning, August 6th, 2025, in the Village of Wild Rose, located in Waushara County, Wisconsin.

At approximately 10:18 AM, law enforcement officers from the Waushara County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make contact with an individual believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis and possibly suicidal. The initial contact attempt took place in the City of Wautoma.

A short time later, officers observed the individual traveling along County Road H, near the Village of Wild Rose. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle to check on the individual’s welfare. However, the driver refused to stop and continued northbound along State Highway 22, passing through the Village of Wild Rose.

The situation escalated when the individual pulled into a parking lot near the intersection of State Highway 22 and County Road A. There, the individual suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies at the scene immediately attempted life-saving measures, but unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were dispatched and arrived promptly. Despite their assistance, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have confirmed that no law enforcement personnel or members of the public were harmed during the course of this incident.

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office has taken the lead in this investigation. All involved agencies and personnel are fully cooperating with the ongoing review of evidence. Upon completion, the case will be submitted to the Waushara County District Attorney’s Office for further review.

At this time, the identity of the deceased is being withheld out of respect for the individual and their family.
