WESLEY CHAPEL, FL (August 6, 2025) — Authorities have confirmed that a traffic crash earlier reported as an injury accident on State Road 56 has now been classified as a fatal crash, bringing a tragic development to an already dangerous afternoon for motorists in the Wesley Chapel area.
The incident occurred near the Wiregrass Mall on the westbound lanes of SR 56. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the scene along with Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical services shortly after the crash was reported. Upon arrival, they found multiple vehicles involved and at least one person suffering from critical injuries.
Sadly, FHP later confirmed that one individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
As of the latest update, all westbound lanes of SR 56 near Wiregrass Mall remain closed, causing significant traffic delays and prompting law enforcement to issue a traffic alert urging drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
