SACRAMENTO, CA — The Sacramento community is mourning the tragic loss of Ricky Reyes, a 19-year-old North Highlands resident who was fatally struck in a suspected DUI crash on Wednesday afternoon, August 6, 2025. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office officially identified Reyes as the victim early Thursday morning.
The fatal incident occurred near the intersection of Del Paso Road and El Centro Road, a busy junction in northern Sacramento. Just after 3:30 p.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department responded to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, they discovered Ricky Reyes lying unresponsive in the roadway.
Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by police officers and Sacramento Fire Department personnel, Ricky was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial findings from the scene indicated that the driver of the vehicle showed signs of intoxication. According to police, the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital, where they remained under medical care as of Thursday. While under treatment, the driver was also placed under arrest in connection with the crash. Authorities have not yet released the name of the driver pending further investigation and possible charges.
