Authorities Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident in Beloit

The Beloit Police Department is actively investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, leaving a local man dead and a community grieving.

According to police, the incident took place at approximately 1:49 a.m. at the intersection of White Avenue and Riverside Drive. An officer on patrol came across the scene of a motorcycle crash, finding the vehicle heavily damaged and its operator critically injured. Tragically, the motorcyclist — a 37-year-old Beloit man — was pronounced dead. Out of respect for the family, his identity is not being released at this time.

Investigators determined that the other vehicle involved in the collision was a blue 1999 GMC Jimmy, which had fled the scene before officers arrived. The SUV was later located abandoned and has since been recovered as part of the ongoing investigation.

“We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim as they mourn this devastating loss,” the department stated in a release.

The Beloit Police Department is urging anyone with information about the crash or the driver of the GMC Jimmy to come forward. Tips can be submitted by calling dispatch at 608-757-2244 or anonymously through the Greater Beloit Area Crime Stoppers.

Authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the collision and to identify and locate the driver responsible.

“This was a senseless and tragic incident,” a police spokesperson added. “We are committed to finding the individual responsible and ensuring they are held accountable.”

As the investigation continues, the department is reminding the public that even the smallest detail could prove critical in bringing closure to the victim’s grieving family.
