The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic multi-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Buskirk man on Sunday afternoon in the Town of Brunswick.
At approximately 12:12 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the scene of a reported motorcycle accident on Grange Road involving two other vehicles. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found severe damage to the motorcycle and significant debris scattered across the roadway.
Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the motorcycle, operated by 40-year-old Chad Niles of Buskirk, NY, was observed traveling erratically in the moments leading up to the collision. Witnesses reported seeing the motorcycle pass multiple vehicles in a designated no-passing zone, crossing the double yellow center lines in the process. Moments later, the motorcycle collided with two other vehicles, resulting in catastrophic injuries to Niles.
Despite immediate emergency response efforts, Chad Niles was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that no other motorists sustained life-threatening injuries, though those involved were evaluated for possible minor injuries and emotional distress.
The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Niles, as well as to all those affected by this devastating accident. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone impacted by this tragedy,” officials said in a public statement.
The Sheriff’s Office also extended its gratitude to the Troy Police Department for providing assistance at the scene and during the early stages of the investigation. Reconstruction specialists are working to piece together the exact sequence of events, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities urge motorists to remain vigilant, obey all traffic laws, and avoid risky driving behaviors that endanger themselves and others.
Further updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
