GIBSON CITY, IL – The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5 is leading an investigation into the shooting of two law enforcement officers in Ford County. The investigation comes at the request of the Gibson City Police Department (GCPD) and the Ford County Sheriff’s Department (FCSD).
On August 9, 2025, at approximately 2:31 a.m., GCPD officers and FCSD deputies responded to a report of a naked man—identified as 70-year-old David D. Jordan of Gibson City—walking outside in the 100 block of Ash Street in Gibson City.
When officers attempted to make contact with David D. Jordan at his residence, they were met with gunfire. A Gibson City police officer and a Ford County sheriff’s deputy were both struck by bullets. The injured officers were transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover.
Shortly after the shooting, the residence of David D. Jordan caught fire. The circumstances surrounding the blaze remain under investigation.
Authorities say David D. Jordan was last seen at the residence prior to the fire and is currently at large. He was last observed unclothed and is believed to be armed and dangerous. Law enforcement is urging the public not to approach him under any circumstances.
“If you see David D. Jordan or know of his whereabouts, call 911 immediately,” police emphasized. Information can also be provided directly to the Gibson City Police Department at 217-784-8666.
The investigation remains active, and once completed, the Illinois State Police will present all evidence and findings to the Ford County State’s Attorney’s Office for review. At this time, no additional information is being released as officers continue to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and piece together the events that led to the shooting and subsequent fire.
If you’d like, I can also rewrite this into a public safety alert format so it reads like an urgent bulletin for immediate release. That would make it sharper and more attention-grabbing.
