Motorcyclist Kevin Gibson Killed in South Jordan Crash on Redwood Road

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — A tragic collision on Saturday night claimed the life of 31-year-old motorcyclist Kevin Gibson, marking the third fatal crash in the South Jordan area in just over a month.

According to South Jordan Police Sgt. Eric Anderson, the incident occurred at approximately 10:16 p.m. on August 9, 2025, at the intersection of 10300 South Redwood Road. Gibson and another motorcyclist were traveling northbound on Redwood Road when a southbound vehicle attempted to turn east into the Smith’s parking lot, cutting across Gibson’s path.

Unable to avoid the vehicle, Gibson collided with it, sustaining critical injuries. Despite the rapid response from emergency crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The second rider managed to swerve out of harm’s way and was uninjured.

Authorities shut down the area for several hours overnight as traffic investigators documented the crash site, took witness statements, and examined the evidence to determine the sequence of events. Sgt. Anderson stated that preliminary findings suggest the turning vehicle failed to yield the right of way. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with police. At this time, no charges or citations have been announced, and impairment is not suspected.

The fatal collision is the third deadly crash along this stretch of Redwood Road since early July, raising concerns about traffic safety in the community. City officials and law enforcement may review possible safety improvements in the area to prevent future tragedies.

Friends, family, and fellow riders are now mourning the loss of Kevin Gibson, remembering him not only for his passion for motorcycles but also for his vibrant personality and the kindness he showed to those around him.

The South Jordan Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward. As the investigation continues, officials are urging motorists to be extra cautious—especially when turning or crossing lanes of traffic—and to always watch for motorcycles.

For those who knew Kevin Gibson, his sudden passing is a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety for all.
