BALTIMORE, MD — A neighborhood gathering turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy Saturday night when gunfire erupted in a Baltimore community, leaving six people wounded — among them a 5-year-old girl.
The shooting occurred just before 8:50 p.m. near the intersection of Spaulding and Queensberry Avenues, where residents had come together outside to share a meal. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley told reporters that the group appeared to be eating crabs when an unidentified suspect suddenly opened fire.
The youngest victim, a 5-year-old girl, was shot in the hand. “Thankfully, it doesn’t appear that her injury is very serious,” Commissioner Worley said.
According to a police advisory, a 38-year-old man suffered the most severe injuries and remains in critical condition. The other victims include a 23-year-old woman and three men, aged 32, 33, and 52, all of whom were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Investigators say no information about the suspect has been confirmed at this time. “We have little information at this point. All we know is there’s multiple rounds fired, multiple victims,” Worley explained.
The shooting has rattled the neighborhood, which is now grappling with the aftermath of yet another incident of gun violence. Detectives are combing the area for evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, and speaking with witnesses in hopes of identifying the shooter and determining a motive.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, stressing that community cooperation is critical to solving this case.
This latest mass shooting underscores the broader challenge Baltimore continues to face in curbing gun violence, particularly when it disrupts everyday moments of community life.
