SOUTH BEND, IN – Authorities in South Bend are investigating a shooting that left one man seriously injured early Sunday morning outside a bar on the city’s northwest side.
According to the South Bend Police Department, the incident occurred on August 10, just before 3 a.m., in the 1500 block of Portage Avenue, near My Place Bar & Grill. Officers were already in the area when they heard multiple gunshots ring out from the direction of the bar.
Responding immediately, police arrived on scene and discovered a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel treated the man at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
The department’s Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation, working to determine what led to the gunfire and identify the suspect or suspects involved. At this time, police have not released any information on potential motives or whether the shooting stemmed from an altercation inside the bar or in the surrounding area.
Detectives spent several hours at the scene overnight, collecting evidence, photographing the area, and speaking with witnesses. Investigators are also reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences to piece together the moments before and after the shooting.
