The Mifflintown community is mourning the loss of Glenn Compton, 82, who tragically lost his life in a multi-vehicle collision in a work zone along US 322 East on Friday, June 8, 2025. A lifelong resident of Juniata County, Glenn was known for his warmth, integrity, and dedication to his family and friends.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 9:18 a.m., about 1.5 miles east of the Thompsontown exit. Traffic in both eastbound lanes had come to a complete stop for work zone activity when a Ram 2500 pickup truck failed to stop, striking the back of Glenn’s Lincoln MKZ. The impact forced his vehicle into a Peterbilt truck ahead.
Glenn, who was behind the wheel of the Lincoln, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passenger, an 80-year-old woman from Mifflintown, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Hershey Medical Center for emergency treatment. The driver of the Ram, a 42-year-old man from Connecticut, was transported to Geisinger Danville Medical Center, while the driver of the Peterbilt reported no injuries.
The crash shut down a section of Route 322 for several hours, reopening shortly after 1:30 p.m., as emergency crews worked diligently to assist victims, clear the wreckage, and investigate the circumstances. Agencies on scene included Central Juniata EMS, Thompsontown EMS, Mifflintown Fire Company, Port Royal Fire Company, Thompsontown Volunteer Fire Company No. 8, FAME EMS, Millerstown Ambulance, Port Royal EMS, the Juniata County Coroner, and multiple Pennsylvania State Police units.
At this time, no charges have been filed, and the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
Those who knew Glenn remember him as a man of quiet strength and genuine kindness. Whether sharing stories with friends, helping neighbors in need, or spending time with loved ones, he approached life with humility and care. His presence brought comfort and stability to those around him, and his absence will be felt deeply across the community.
Glenn Compton leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and service. While his passing was sudden and tragic, the memories he created will remain a source of comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in the coming days.
If you’d like, I can prepare a more personal tribute version that focuses more on Glenn’s life, career, hobbies, and family, so it reads less like a news report and more like a heartfelt remembrance.
