EAST CLEVELAND, OHIO —A domestic violence call turned deadly Thursday night in East Cleveland, leaving two police officers wounded and two civilians dead. Authorities say the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Aaron Sharp, opened fire both inside the residence and during the subsequent police search before being captured early Friday morning.
The incident began when officers responded to a home on North Taylor Road for a reported domestic disturbance. As Officer Joshua Durda approached the house, he was immediately met with gunfire, sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. He was rushed to a hospital where he underwent surgery and remains in recovery.
Inside the residence, officers discovered a horrifying scene: 82-year-old Charles Roscoe and 22-year-old Erik Sharp had been fatally shot before police arrived. Both men were relatives of the suspect, according to investigators.
The search for Aaron Sharp intensified throughout the neighborhood. During the operation, Officer Brandon Hernandez was shot about a block from the original scene. Thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening, and he was later released from the hospital.
The manhunt concluded Friday morning when Sharp was taken into custody without further incident. Police have not yet released details about the motive or the events that led to the initial shooting. The case is now under joint investigation by local law enforcement and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.
The East Cleveland Police Department is rallying around its injured officers, offering support to their families while mourning the loss of the two civilians whose lives were cut short. Community members have expressed shock and grief, emphasizing the bravery of officers who faced extreme danger to protect others.
“Our thoughts are with the victims’ families, as well as Officers Durda and Hernandez, as they recover from this tragic event,” said a department spokesperson.
