Fatal Traffic Crash Investigation Involving Rolando Ico-Choc and Darcy Connolly-Brunner in Stephenson County

Stephenson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a tragic head-on collision on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, that claimed the lives of both drivers involved. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 12:38 p.m. on Illinois Route 26 North near Oneco Road, in the rural area of Orangeville.

Preliminary investigations reveal that a Nissan Altima, driven by 30-year-old Rolando Ico-Choc, a Guatemalan national residing in Freeport, was traveling southbound when the vehicle unexpectedly crossed into the northbound lane of Illinois Route 26 North. There, it collided head-on with a Ford Edge driven by 61-year-old Darcy Connolly-Brunner of Freeport.

Tragically, both Mr. Ico-Choc and Ms. Connolly-Brunner were pronounced deceased at the scene. No additional passengers were reported in either vehicle.

Deputies are currently investigating whether alcohol impairment may have played a role in the crash on the part of Mr. Ico-Choc. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that Ms. Connolly-Brunner was impaired. Toxicology tests will be performed during the autopsy process, with results expected to take several weeks.

The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is actively involved in the investigation, meticulously examining the crash to determine the full circumstances surrounding this fatal incident. Autopsies for both victims are scheduled to take place on August 12, 2025.
