Bakersfield, CA — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the two young men who tragically lost their lives in a late-night crash on Highway 99. Alexes Napoleon Perez Rivera, 20, and Samuel Ignacio Hernandez Cervantes, 20, both of Bakersfield, died after their vehicle collided with a guardrail on Friday night.
According to coroner’s officials, Rivera was driving southbound on Highway 99, north of Union Avenue, at approximately 11:17 p.m. when the vehicle struck a metal guardrail. The impact caused the car to lose control, leading to a devastating outcome. Samuel Hernandez Cervantes, who was a passenger, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Both young men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two female passengers who were also in the car sustained major injuries and were transported to Kern Medical for treatment. Authorities did not immediately release their identities or the extent of their conditions.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including factors that may have contributed to the loss of control. No further details regarding speed, impairment, or other potential causes were immediately available.
