Barratt A. Gorman, 76, Found Deceased in Lake Ontario

Oswego, NY — The Oswego County community is mourning the loss of Barratt A. Gorman, a 76-year-old longtime resident of Oswego, who was found deceased in Lake Ontario on Tuesday night.

Deputies from the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man in the water off Route 89, west of the SUNY Oswego Campus, at approximately 9:31 p.m. Upon arrival, search efforts were immediately initiated. Around 10:20 p.m., Gorman was located in the lake and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities reported that Gorman was a familiar presence along the shoreline, as he regularly swam in the area. He lived nearby on Route 89, and neighbors described him as a dedicated and active member of the Oswego community.

Barratt Gorman retired in 2004 from the New York Power Authority, where he had worked for many years, contributing to the region’s energy infrastructure. Colleagues and friends remember him as a steady and thoughtful professional with a passion for the outdoors and his local community.

No foul play is suspected in Gorman’s passing, and deputies continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
