BRIGHTON, Colo. — The Brighton Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving motorcyclist Drew Lving, 30, of Brighton, that occurred on the afternoon of August 12.
Just after 3:00 p.m., officers responded to Prairie Center Parkway near Platte Valley Medical Center following reports of a collision. Upon arrival, they found Lving lying on the roadway with severe injuries.
According to the preliminary investigation, Lving had been traveling northbound on Prairie Center Parkway on his motorcycle when a southbound vehicle made a left turn into the hospital parking lot, crossing directly into his path. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Brenda Rodriguez of Brighton, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. She was transported to the hospital for evaluation as a precaution. Police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
Lving was rushed to Platte Valley Medical Center, where medical personnel performed life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Rodriguez was arrested for careless driving causing death and taken to the Brighton Police Department for booking before being released pending charges. The case will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office in the coming days to determine any formal charges.
The Brighton Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is leading the investigation and emphasized that under Colorado law, an arrest and criminal charge are formal accusations only, and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
