GEORGE COUNTY, MS – The George County Sheriff’s Office has launched a homicide investigation following a deadly incident in the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
At approximately 5:38 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Finch Road after receiving reports of a serious incident. Upon arrival, law enforcement personnel discovered a deceased individual at the scene. The George County Criminal Investigations Division (CID) immediately took over the case and began processing evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.
During the initial stages of the investigation, deputies quickly identified a person of interest. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert was issued countywide. This alert led to a joint effort between the Lucedale Police Department and the George County Sheriff’s Office, resulting in a successful traffic stop and the detention of the individual without incident. The person of interest is currently in custody as investigators continue to develop leads and gather facts.
Sheriff Mitchell Mixon emphasized the quick and coordinated response:
“We want the public to know that this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community. Thanks to the swift cooperation between our deputies and the Lucedale Police Department, we were able to take a person of interest into custody quickly. We will continue to pursue every lead to ensure justice is served for the victim and their loved ones.”
At this time, the identity of the victim is being withheld until next of kin have been notified. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward, as community cooperation could be vital to bringing closure to the victim’s family.
