Russell County Coroner Identifies Victim in Fatal Jet Ski Accident at Alligator #1

RUSSELL COUNTY, KY – The Russell County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that 55-year-old LaDonna Gail Wasson, of the Jabez community, was the woman who died following a tragic jet ski accident on Tuesday evening, August 12, 2025.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the Alligator #1 area for reports of a jet ski accident involving a single victim. Ms. Wasson was pronounced deceased at the scene before being transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for a detailed post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.

Russell County Coroner Mark A. Coots expressed his appreciation to those who assisted in the response and recovery efforts, noting the quick and compassionate support from local marina operators, their employees, and community members who worked together to help locate Ms. Wasson’s family during this difficult time.

As the boating and water recreation season continues, local officials are reminding residents and visitors to exercise caution and follow all safety guidelines while on the water. Lake Cumberland, while a popular recreational destination, can present unpredictable hazards, particularly for those operating personal watercraft like jet skis.

The Russell County community is mourning the loss of LaDonna Gail Wasson, remembering her as a valued member of the Jabez area. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Do you want me to also add more personal details about her life to make this piece double as a tribute? That would make it warmer and more community-focused.
