Harlan County, KY – Authorities are investigating a devastating two-vehicle collision that claimed the lives of two people late Wednesday morning in Harlan County. The crash occurred at approximately 11:26 a.m. at the intersection of US 119 and US 421, known locally as Red Light #1.
According to Kentucky State Police Post 10, troopers responded immediately after receiving the emergency call. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that two individuals had died as a result of the impact. Their identities have not yet been released pending notification of family members.
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by KSP detectives. As part of the ongoing scene examination, the roadway remains completely closed to traffic. Law enforcement officials have established a detour, urging motorists to avoid the area and instead use Highway 413 and Highway 840 to bypass the scene.
Responding agencies worked together to secure the area, assist victims, and manage the flow of traffic during this critical time. Kentucky State Police were supported by the Harlan Police Department, Harlan County Sheriff’s Office, Sunshine Fire Department, Harlan Fire Department, Lifeguard Ambulance, and the Harlan County Coroner’s Office.
