The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that three suspects—Jerry L. Jones, Benny L. Grady, and William E. Mack—are now in custody in connection with a tragic shooting that occurred on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at a residence located at 1868 Durham Place Road in the Lake Wateree area of Fairfield County, South Carolina. The incident has left the local community shaken and grieving, particularly as the female victim’s death coincided with what would have been her 38th birthday.
According to the official news release, deputies responded to reports of shots fired at the home. Upon arrival, law enforcement found one individual unresponsive and another suffering from a gunshot wound to the hip. The deceased female was later identified as Laporsha Jasma Farr, 37, of Lanier Street in Spartanburg. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to Prisma Health Richland and is currently in stable condition.
Investigators determined that three males were present during an argument at the residence. During the altercation, one suspect allegedly produced a handgun, fatally shooting Farr in the neck and wounding the second victim in the hip before fleeing the scene with the other two men.
Over the next two days, Benny L. Grady and William E. Mack were apprehended without incident. The third suspect, Jerry L. Jones, was taken into custody after a three-hour standoff in Greenville County. As of August 14, 2025, all three suspects are in custody.
Sheriff Will Montgomery expressed his condolences and gratitude, stating:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this case and I am grateful for a swift resolution to this devastating crime.”
He also extended appreciation to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Greenville, and Greer Police Department for their assistance, as well as to the citizens of Fairfield County who helped investigators uncover key facts in the case.
