PADUCAH, Ky — A tragic shooting in Paducah has claimed the lives of a young woman and her unborn child, leading authorities to upgrade charges against the three suspects believed to be involved.
According to the Paducah Police Department, 20-year-old Jamiyah Walker, of Paducah, was critically injured when she and two other women were shot on August 9, 2025, in the 900 block of Boyd Street. Walker, who was pregnant at the time, was rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to a medical facility in Nashville, Tennessee.
Despite days of intensive treatment, Walker was taken off life support, and both she and her unborn child were pronounced dead on August 13.
Police say the other victims — a 23-year-old woman and a 28-year-old woman — suffered injuries in the shooting but survived. Their names have not been released publicly.
In the wake of Walker’s death, investigators announced new charges against the suspects: Capus Adams, Malik Copeland, and a 16-year-old male whose name is withheld due to his age. All three were previously charged in connection to the August 9 shooting, but their charges now include:
- Complicity to Commit First-Degree Murder
- Complicity to Commit First-Degree Fetal Homicide
Authorities allege that the three suspects acted together during the incident, which left three women wounded and has now resulted in two fatalities.
The Paducah Police Department has not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting, but investigators are actively pursuing leads and continuing to interview witnesses.
“This is a devastating case for the family, the community, and everyone involved,” a department spokesperson said. “The loss of a young woman and her unborn child is something no one should have to endure. We are committed to seeking justice.”
The Boyd Street neighborhood has been left shaken by the violence, with residents describing the gunfire as sudden and chaotic. Several neighbors reported hearing multiple shots and seeing people running from the scene.
Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Paducah Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 270-443-TELL (8355).
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say more updates will be provided as additional evidence is processed.
This marks one of the most tragic cases in Paducah in recent years, as the community mourns not only the death of a young woman but also the loss of the life she was carrying.
