BATON ROUGE, La. — Baton Rouge Police say an arrest has been made in connection with the April 26, 2025, fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jonathan Triplett.
According to investigators, the shooting happened just before 11:59 p.m. in the 2400 block of North 38th Street. Triplett was sitting in a vehicle stopped at the red light at North 38th Street and Choctaw Drive when shots rang out. He was struck and fatally wounded, and despite emergency efforts, he died at the scene.
Following weeks of investigation, Baton Rouge Police Homicide detectives identified Keithan Lee, 19, as the suspect. Authorities say Lee turned himself in to local law enforcement after recognizing his photograph on the OnLive Patrol broadcast.
Lee has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of Second-Degree Murder and Illegal Use of a Weapon.
Ongoing Investigation
Detectives have not yet released a possible motive for the shooting, and it remains unclear whether Triplett and Lee knew each other before the incident. Police are urging anyone with further information to come forward, stressing that community cooperation is crucial in solving violent crimes.
Community Reaction
The deadly shooting has left friends and family of Triplett grieving. Loved ones describe him as a young man with his whole life ahead of him, whose life was cut short by senseless gun violence. Neighbors in the area have expressed frustration over recurring shootings in the city and called for stronger measures to address the issue.
