The tight-knit community of Horse Cave, Kentucky, is grieving the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Jacob Andrew Gentry, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 11, 2025, at just 24 years old. His departure at such a young age has left an unfillable void in the lives of his family, friends, church community, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jacob was a young man defined by his hard work, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. As a driver for the Amish community, he played a crucial role in ensuring that goods and supplies reached their destinations safely and on time. His work was not just a job—it was a reflection of his character: dependable, honest, and guided by a genuine desire to help others.
A devoted member of Northtown United Baptist Church, Jacob’s life was firmly rooted in faith. He was known among his church family for his sincerity, humility, and willingness to lend a hand whenever there was a need. His guiding principles were love, kindness, and service, values he lived out every single day.
At the center of Jacob’s heart was his family. He leaves behind his loving mother, Chena Watt, and her partner, Colton Watt; his father, Sammie Gentry, and stepmother, Ashley Short; his beloved fiancée, Haley Green, with whom he shared a deep and devoted relationship; and his two children, Weston and Haven Gentry, who were the joy and pride of his life. Jacob was also a cherished brother to Haley Gentry and Shelby Gentry, with whom he shared an unbreakable sibling bond filled with laughter, memories, and mutual support. His grandparents, Papaw Ewell and Granny Jewell, held him close in their hearts and watched his life with immense pride.
Friends and loved ones will have the opportunity to honor Jacob’s life and legacy during the upcoming services. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 13, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sego Funeral Home, and will continue Thursday morning, August 14, beginning at 8 a.m. prior to the funeral. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, followed by Jacob’s burial at Northtown Cemetery, a place close to his heart and symbolic of the community that loved him so deeply.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made directly to Sego Funeral Home to help cover funeral expenses. This gesture not only provides support in a time of great sorrow but also reflects the collective care and compassion that binds this community together.
Though Jacob’s life was far too brief, it was filled with purpose, joy, and love. He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his deep commitment to his family, and his service to both his community and church. His story is one of a life well-lived—one that leaves behind a lasting example of resilience, kindness, and devotion.
As Horse Cave comes together to mourn, they also celebrate the impact Jacob had on those around him. His legacy will live on in the lessons he taught through his actions: to work with integrity, to love without reservation, and to stand firm in faith.
Jacob Andrew Gentry’s time on earth has ended, but his light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. In every memory, in every story told, and in every act of kindness inspired by his example, Jacob’s spirit will live on.
