Fremont Police Investigating Fatal Shooting; Suspect Brandon Miguel Cox in Custody

FREMONT, N.C. – The Fremont Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday night, leaving one man dead and another, 39-year-old Brandon Miguel Cox, facing murder charges.

According to a press release from the department, officers responded to a shooting call on S. Goldsboro Street in Fremont at approximately 9:12 p.m. on August 12, 2025. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim lying inside a residence with an apparent gunshot wound.

Wayne County EMS was called to the scene, but despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as 37-year-old Taylor Lawrence Mobley Davis of Fremont.

During the course of the investigation, authorities identified and detained Cox. Investigators obtained warrants for Second Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon in connection with the incident.

Police say Cox appeared before a magistrate and was issued a $15,000 secured bond for the firearm possession charge. He is currently being held without bond on the Second Degree Murder charge, pending his first court appearance.
