Edward Townsend Killed in Lancaster Shooting; Suspect James Singleton Arrested

Lancaster, SC — The Lancaster community is mourning the loss of Edward Townsend, who was tragically shot at the Palmetto Place Apartments on Monday, August 11, 2025. Townsend was found by Lancaster police with a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities quickly identified James Singleton as a suspect in the fatal shooting. Less than 48 hours after the incident, Singleton was apprehended in Rock Hill on Wednesday morning. The swift arrest came following an intensive investigation, aided by tips from the public and the dissemination of Singleton’s photo through media outlets.

“We are pleased to have achieved a quick resolution in this case, providing justice for the Townsend family,” said the Lancaster Police Chief. “We want to thank our law enforcement partners, the public, and the news media for their assistance in sharing Mr. Singleton’s photo and providing tips for our investigation.”
