Mountville Man in Critical Condition After Being Found Shot in Troup County Home

MOUNTVILLE, Ga. — A 47-year-old man, Dawendell White, is in critical condition after being found shot in the head inside his Troup County home early Monday morning, authorities confirmed. The shocking discovery has prompted a thorough investigation by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were initially called to the Mountville community, near the Meriwether County line, following a 911 call reporting a man who had supposedly been injured in a fall. Upon arrival, deputies found White lying on the floor of his home, unresponsive.

According to officials, co-workers had grown concerned after White failed to show up for work and went to check on him. This prompted the welfare check that led to the discovery.

“At first, the call came in as a fall,” said Lt. Stewart Smith of the Troup County Sheriff’s Office. “It just appeared that he did not fall. Plus they got there and a door was open. That was their first clue that maybe someone had entered the home. When they found him unresponsive, it became clear that something was not normal at the house.”

White was immediately transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where medical staff confirmed via X-ray that he had been shot in the head. He remains in critical condition, receiving care and monitoring.

Sheriff’s investigators have been working the case since Monday morning. While details remain limited, authorities emphasized that they do not believe there is any danger to the public, suggesting that the victim may have known the shooter.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office continues to examine the scene, interview potential witnesses, and gather evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials have not yet released information regarding possible suspects, motives, or whether the shooting was targeted.

Neighbors and community members expressed shock at the news, describing White as a well-known resident in the Mountville area. Local law enforcement has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward to aid the ongoing investigation.

This case is considered active and evolving, and authorities have pledged to provide updates as new information becomes available. The community is asked to remain vigilant but is reassured that the situation does not pose a broader threat.

The investigation underscores the Troup County Sheriff’s Office commitment to ensuring public safety while working to bring clarity and accountability in a case that has shaken the Mountville community.
