Raymona Ford Arrested in Connection with Drowning Death of 2-Year-Old in Tallahassee; Bond Denied

A tragic case that has gripped the Tallahassee community for months reached a pivotal moment this week when police announced the arrest of 24-year-old Raymona Ford in connection with the drowning death of a 2-year-old child.

According to a Wednesday press release from the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD), Ford has been charged with murder following what authorities described as a “months-long investigation that concluded the child’s drowning was due to foul play.” On Thursday, a judge denied her bond, ensuring she remains in custody as the legal process moves forward.

The incident that led to Ford’s arrest took place nearly three months ago at the Magnolia Terrace Apartments. On that day, police responded to a distress call about a young child who had allegedly drowned in a bathtub. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, performed life-saving measures, and transported the child to a nearby hospital. The 2-year-old was listed in critical condition but, tragically, passed away four days later.

At the time, details were scarce, and the child’s death was initially treated as a drowning incident. However, detectives began an in-depth investigation, reviewing medical records, witness statements, and forensic evidence. Their findings painted a disturbing picture—police allege that Ford struck the toddler multiple times, causing seizures that left the child vulnerable and unattended in the bathtub, ultimately leading to his drowning.

“This was a heartbreaking case for all involved,” the TPD said in their statement, noting that the nature of Ford’s relationship to the victim has not yet been disclosed publicly.

Community members who live near Magnolia Terrace expressed shock and sadness at the news, with many saying they had been haunted by the sight of emergency vehicles at the complex that day. “It’s just devastating,” said one neighbor. “A baby should never have to go through something like that.”

As the case moves into the court system, prosecutors are expected to pursue serious charges, given the findings of the investigation and the child’s young age. Meanwhile, the Tallahassee community continues to grapple with the senseless loss of life, mourning a child whose future was cut short by violence.

The Tallahassee Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about the case to come forward, as they work to ensure that justice is served.
