Jerry L. Jones Arrested After Fatal Lake Wateree Shooting; Two Others Charged as Accessories

Authorities have announced the arrest of Jerry L. Jones, the third suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in the Midlands earlier this week. The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday that Jones was taken into custody in Greenville County following a tense three-hour standoff with law enforcement.

The arrests stem from a violent incident that unfolded Tuesday on Durham Road in the Lake Wateree area. Deputies responded to reports of gunfire at a residence and arrived to find two victims—one critically injured and another already deceased.

The deceased victim was identified as Laporsha Jasma Farr, a resident of Spartanburg. She was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the neck. The second victim, who suffered a gunshot wound to the hip, was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

According to investigators, the shooting erupted during an argument involving three men at the property. During the dispute, one suspect allegedly brandished a handgun and opened fire, striking both victims before fleeing. Authorities say that Jones is believed to be the shooter.

Jones now faces multiple charges, including:

•Attempted murder

•Possession of a weapon during a violent crime

The other two suspects—Benny L. Grady and William E. Mack—were arrested earlier in the week. Both are charged as accessories to murder in connection to the case. Sheriff’s officials report that Mack is currently being held at the Fairfield County Detention Center, though it is not yet confirmed where Jones and Grady are being housed.

Law enforcement has not yet disclosed the circumstances that led to the altercation or the exact relationship between the suspects and victims. The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the case remains under active investigation as they work to piece together the events leading up to the deadly shooting.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward, as they continue to seek justice for Laporsha Jasma Farr and closure for her grieving family.
