Texas Woman Arrested in Aurora, Illinois for Kidnapping and Child Abduction

Aurora, IL – Cindy Sanchez, a 47-year-old woman from Fort Worth, Texas, has been arrested by Aurora Police after allegedly abducting two children and attempting to take them out of state without their mother’s consent.

According to the Aurora Police Department, the incident began around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, in the 500 block of Rosewood Avenue. Police were notified of a possible kidnapping involving two juveniles—an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old—who had been staying with family members in Aurora.

Investigators say that an unknown woman arrived at the residence and told the family she had been sent by the children’s mother to take them out of state. Believing the explanation, the family allowed the children to leave with her. However, authorities later confirmed that the mother had never authorized anyone to take her children, prompting an urgent search.

Located at Midway Airport

Working quickly, Aurora Police tracked the suspect and the children to Chicago’s Midway International Airport. Both juveniles were found safe, and Sanchez was taken into custody without incident.

Police say Sanchez is a relative of the children’s father. Investigators allege the father, who resides in Mexico, paid Sanchez to transport the children to him via the Texas-Mexico border. Importantly, authorities noted that the father does not have legal custody of the children.

Serious Criminal Charges

Sanchez has been charged with:

  • Two counts of Kidnapping
  • Two counts of Child Abduction
  • Two counts of Unlawful Restraint

Aurora Police stressed that the children were unharmed and have since been reunited with their mother. “This case serves as a reminder that any removal of children without legal authority—even by a family member—can constitute a serious criminal offense,” the department said in a statement.

Investigation Continues

The investigation is ongoing, with police working alongside prosecutors to determine whether additional charges will be filed and whether extradition-related issues involving the father will be pursued. Federal authorities may also be consulted given the alleged plan to transport the children across international borders.

Anyone with further information about the case is encouraged to contact the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Division or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
