CARSON, Calif – A Carson family is living with heartbreak and frustration after 24-year-old Angelina Davis was killed in a horrific hit-and-run crash on the 110 Freeway earlier this summer. Months after the tragedy, no charges have been filed against the alleged DUI driver, leaving her father, Anthony Mata, demanding answers and justice for his daughter.
The devastating crash happened on Father’s Day, June 2025, when Davis was riding in the car with her boyfriend, Brady, who was driving. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), their vehicle was struck from behind by a speeding car on the northbound 110, near Torrance Boulevard. The impact sent Davis’ car crashing into a guardrail, leaving it torn apart on the side of the freeway.
“The suspect hit my daughter at 11:35 on Father’s Day. He fled the scene,” Mata recalled, fighting back tears. “It doesn’t sit right, because… it’s injustice.”
Video taken after the crash shows the mangled wreckage, a haunting reminder of the violent impact that claimed Davis’ life. Brady, her boyfriend, survived the crash but suffered injuries. The couple had been making plans for their future together, with Davis preparing to formally introduce him to her family just days after the accident.
“She was actually coming out, this Friday, she was bringing out her amazing boyfriend, Brady, who was driving the car, who was injured as well,” Mata shared. “She was bringing him out here this Friday to introduce him to us for a possible future marriage.”
According to CHP, the suspected driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI shortly after the crash, not far from the accident site. But in a turn that continues to outrage the Davis family, the suspect was released from custody a short time later.
“If you cause an accident, you leave the scene, it’s a felony regardless,” Mata said. His greatest concern now is that the man responsible could leave the state or even the country. “He can go to Tijuana. He’s just living his best life right now, while my daughter’s in an urn.”
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed the case is under review, but Mata says he has received little communication or explanation from prosecutors. “When I called, they didn’t tell me what was happening or why,” he said, describing the lack of answers as an additional burden on top of his grief.
Officer Bobby Eurin with CHP issued a statement to Eyewitness News, explaining:
“The case is actively being investigated. We are getting more information from the coroner’s office and from our accident investigation team to reconstruct this incident. As soon as we get that we can resubmit it to the DA’s Office.”
For Mata, each day that passes without charges feels like justice slipping further away. His daughter had just celebrated her birthday days before her life was cut short. Now, instead of looking forward to her future, he visits her memory and mourns the milestones she will never reach.
“She should be here right now,” he said. “Planning her life, building her dreams. Instead, I have to fight every day just to get justice for her.”
The Davis family continues to wait for a decision from prosecutors, holding onto the hope that Angelina’s life will not be forgotten and that the man accused of taking it will one day be held accountable.
