WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is actively investigating a shooting that occurred near the Kennedy Recreation Center in the 1400 block of 7th Street Northwest—a densely populated and widely used public space in the Shaw neighborhood. The incident, which unfolded on Monday afternoon, has left residents shaken and reignited citywide concerns about the persistent threat of gun violence in areas meant to serve as safe havens for families and youth.
According to preliminary information released by MPD, the shooting involved an adult female who sustained gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel responded promptly, rendering aid at the scene before transporting the victim to a nearby trauma facility.
