Fremont High School Mourns the Loss of Recent Graduate Elan Miranda

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Elan Miranda, a beloved member of the Fremont High School Class of 2025 and a shining light in the Oakland Unified School District. Elan’s life was cut short far too soon after a devastating accident this past Sunday, leaving his family, friends, and school community in deep mourning.

Just weeks ago, on June 2nd, Elan walked across the graduation stage with pride—celebrating not only his academic achievement, but the dreams he held for the future. Today, those dreams are a memory we hold close, and the loss of his presence is a pain that echoes across every hallway, classroom, and heart that knew him.

Elan was more than a student. He was a son, a friend, a classmate, and a young man full of warmth, humor, and promise. He brought light and laughter into the lives of those around him—always quick with a smile, a helping hand, or a kind word. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will remain a part of Fremont forever.

In the wake of this unimaginable loss, Elan’s mother is working to honor his life and memory by arranging for his final resting place to be in Honduras, a place deeply meaningful to his family. To help support these efforts and provide the family with the means to say goodbye in accordance with their wishes, a GoFundMe has been created:

We know that grief affects everyone differently, and in times like these, it is more important than ever to support one another. Fremont High School will have counseling staff and support personnel on campus this week, offering a space for students, recent graduates, and staff to gather, share memories, and begin the journey of healing together.

Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to Elan’s family, his friends, his teachers, and everyone whose life he touched. We grieve with you. We remember him with love. And we hold his memory close as we carry forward the legacy of the joy and kindness he brought into this world.

May Elan Miranda rest in peace and power. He will never be forgotten.
