DEMOPOLIS, AL — July 15, 2025A shocking act of violence erupted Tuesday at the Walmart on U.S. Highway 80 in Demopolis, when Kierra Carter, 32, of Demopolis, allegedly attacked two individuals with a crowbar and a butcher knife inside the store. What was initially reported to authorities as a possible active shooter situation was quickly clarified as a stabbing incident, according to Demopolis Police Chief and Director of Public Safety Rex Flowers.
Officers with the Demopolis Police Department responded swiftly after dispatchers from Marengo County E-911 relayed a description of the suspect’s vehicle and direction of travel. While some officers intercepted Carter’s vehicle along Highway 80, others secured the Walmart and ensured the safety of shoppers and staff.
According to Chief Flowers, Kierra Carter entered the store, picked up a crowbar and a butcher knife, and without provocation began attacking a 29-year-old woman inside the store.
“She struck the female victim with the crowbar and then began chasing her through the store,” Flowers said.
As the incident unfolded, a 47-year-old man attempted to intervene and disarm Carter. During the struggle, he was cut and seriously injured.
Flowers confirmed that Carter was not known to either of the victims. Both individuals were transported to Whitfield Regional Hospital. The female victim was treated and released, while the male victim’s injuries required that he be airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Kierra Carter was taken into custody without further incident and is currently facing one count of Assault in the First Degree and one count of Assault in the Second Degree. Chief Flowers noted that a motive has not yet been determined, and additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
“I want to commend the Demopolis officers for their quick response and the safe apprehension of the suspect,” Flowers said. “I also want to thank the Marengo County E-911 dispatchers for their critical support, as well as the Marengo County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office Investigators for their assistance.”
The case remains under active investigation.
