CALICO ROCK, AR – May 25, 2025 – The Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC) confirms that inmate Grant Hardin, ADC #168541, escaped from the North Central Unit on Sunday, May 25, at approximately 3:40 p.m. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the escape and are seeking public assistance in locating the fugitive.
Hardin, who has been incarcerated at the North Central Unit since 2017, is currently serving a 30-year sentence for first-degree murder, along with an additional sentence related to a rape conviction. Prior to his incarceration, Hardin served as police chief for the city of Gateway, Arkansas, and has an extensive background in law enforcement. His experience makes him particularly dangerous, as he may possess knowledge that could help him evade capture.
The Division of Correction and the Division of Community Correction are working collaboratively with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to pursue every available lead and bring Hardin back into custody. Tactical teams, search units, and intelligence resources have been mobilized across the region.
“This individual is considered dangerous and should not be approached under any circumstances,” said a spokesperson for the Department of Corrections. “We are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.”
Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen Hardin or who has information regarding his location to contact local law enforcement immediately. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Arkansas State Police tip line or by dialing 911.
