Remembering Marty Dwight Evans: Beloved Church Elder, Coach, and Community Leader Passes at 69

With deep sorrow and heartfelt remembrance, the family and community of Muscle Shoals mourn the passing of Marty Dwight Evans, age 69, who departed this life on Friday, July 11, 2025. A faithful servant of God and pillar of strength to many, Marty leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and service that will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 13, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at East Colbert Church of Christ in Muscle Shoals, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Michael South. Marty will be laid to rest at Colbert Memorial Gardens in Tuscumbia.

A devoted member of East Colbert Church of Christ, Marty served as elder for 33 years, offering wise counsel, steadfast leadership, and a heart rooted in service. He lived every day as a reflection of his Christian faith, always seeking to uplift others and answer any call for help with humility and grace.

Marty lived life fully. He loved to travel, and found great joy in camping, hunting, and simply enjoying the outdoors—especially from his front porch, coffee in hand, taking in the beauty of nature. A passionate runner and devoted sports fan, Marty had a special love for baseball and Alabama football. He coached Youth League Baseball for eleven years, instilling lessons of sportsmanship and perseverance in countless young athletes. His contribution to the local sports community earned him a place in the Colbert County Sports Hall of Fame.

Yet above all, Marty’s greatest devotion was to his faith, his beloved wife Linda, and his family. He was the rock of the Evans family—a loving husband, proud father, doting grandfather, and joyful great-grandfather. His presence at family gatherings, always filled with warmth, laughter, and quiet wisdom, will be missed more than words can convey.

Marty was preceded in death by his mother, Virglyn Evans; daughter, Amy Beth Evans Wampler; siblings Charles Evans, James Evans, Wilma Oswalt, Jewel Patterson, and Doug Evans; and in-laws Bobby and Diane Brown.

He is lovingly survived by:

•His wife, Linda Brown Evans

•Sons: Andy Evans (Jamie) and Adam Evans (Kendra)

•Siblings: Wayne Evans, Thomas Evans, David Evans, Judy Patterson, Susan Bevis, and Myrle Dewberry

•Grandchildren: Ashlyn Blackmon, Evan Byrd, Ava Evans, Kinley Wampler, Jacob Evans, Jonas Evans, Swayze Evans, and Ledger Evans

•Great-grandsons: Sammy Blackmon and Lucas Blackmon

Pallbearers will be Glen Brown, Chris Hulsey, Greg Smith, Brent Wear, Jerry Wilcoxson, and Andy Nichols. The East Colbert Church of Christ Security Team will serve as honorary pallbearers, a fitting tribute to the man who served and protected his faith community with unwavering commitment.

Marty Dwight Evans lived with purpose, led with love, and left behind a legacy of faith, humility, and service that will continue to inspire all who had the blessing of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, his church, and the entire Muscle Shoals community.

May he rest in eternal peace.
