Fargo Police Department Investigates Discovery of Deceased Male Near Red River

On Sunday, May 25, at approximately 1:46 p.m., the Fargo Police Department (FPD) received a call dispatching officers to the 100 block of Maple Street North, near the banks of the Red River, following the discovery of an unresponsive adult male in a wooded area.

The initial report came from a fisherman who was walking in Oak Grove Park close to the river. Upon encountering the individual who appeared to be in distress, the fisherman promptly contacted emergency services by dialing 911. Given the proximity to the water, the call was initially classified as a potential water rescue, prompting a swift multi-unit response, including water rescue teams.

Upon arrival, however, FPD officers quickly assessed the situation and determined that the male was deceased, and that water rescue efforts were not required. The circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear at this time.

The Fargo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division has taken over the investigation and is actively working to determine the facts and cause of death. In respect of the deceased and their family, the department has chosen not to release the individual’s name until next-of-kin have been properly notified.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed something related to this incident or who possesses any information that could assist the investigation to come forward. Those with relevant details are encouraged to contact the Red River Regional Dispatch Center by calling 701.451.7660 and requesting to speak directly with an FPD Shift Commander.
