ALEXANDRIA, LA (CENLA) — July 19, 2025 — The Alexandria Police Department (APD) has announced a major development in a deadly shooting incident that took place on Warshauer Street, making a swift arrest in under 12 hours. The victim’s name has not yet been released pending notification of family, but police confirm the crime is being investigated as a narcotics-related homicide. Authorities confirmed the arrest of 29-year-old Jamarrius Willingham of Alexandria on Friday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. He was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
What We Know So Far:
According to the APD, the shooting occurred earlier Friday in the Warshauer Street area — a normally quiet residential neighborhood that was abruptly disrupted by gunfire. Officers responded swiftly to reports of shots fired and found one person fatally shot and another injured at the scene.
After an intense and fast-moving investigation, police say they zeroed in on Willingham as a suspect. He was arrested within half a day of the crime, an indication of both the urgency and coordinated effort of law enforcement.
“This is a narcotics-related gun homicide,” officials stated, emphasizing that the motive appears to stem from drug-related activity. The APD has not elaborated on the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, but investigators believe it was not a random act of violence.
Willingham now faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder. His total bond has been set at $1.5 million.
Investigation Ongoing – Public Assistance Needed
While the arrest of Willingham is a major step forward in the case, the Alexandria Police Department stressed that the investigation is far from over. Authorities strongly believe additional individuals may have been involved in the planning or execution of the shooting.
“We need the public’s help identifying and locating more suspects connected to this incident,” a department spokesperson said Friday evening. “Anyone who has information — no matter how small it may seem — should come forward.”
APD urges community members to contact them at 318-441-6411, or to report tips anonymously through the Crime Stoppers tip line at 318-443-7867.
Community on Edge

“This is usually a peaceful area,” one resident told reporters. “I’m glad they arrested someone so fast, but it’s scary to think there are others still out there.”
City officials and community leaders are also responding to the growing concern over drug-related violence. The Alexandria Police Department has pledged increased patrols and ongoing collaboration with narcotics and violent crimes units.
